FAQ's - Relaxers

Why does haircolor on relaxed hair seem too light?

Haircolor on relaxed hair may come up lighter or warmer than expected. Select the next darker shade for better results.

How can I keep dark brown hair from turning "brassy"?

If you are using a permanent color, select an ash base (green, blue or blue-violet) to counterbalance unwanted warmth, and (if you are covering gray at the same time) add at least ½ to 1 oz. of a neutral-based color to the formula at the same or a similar Level.

How can I correct uneven haircolor results?

If color results in the past have been uneven (too light at the roots and too dark on the ends), consider a deep conditioning treatment just before coloring. The conditioner will act as a filler to even out the porous areas and color will take more evenly.

What does a relaxer product do?

A relaxer permanently rearranges the structure of curly hair into a straight form.

What is Clairol Textures & Tones and how many strengths are available?

Textures & Tones is a relaxer system. This sodium hydroxide formula is available in mild, regular and super strengths.

Does it really matter what formula strength I select?

Yes, the texture of the hair determines the strength of the product. Hair texture is fine, medium, or coarse. The mild formula should be used on fine or color-treated hair. The regular should be used on medium and the super on coarse, resistant hair.

Should a relaxer be pulled through the ends on every application?

No. In a retouch application, be very careful to apply the relaxer only to the new growth.

Can I use any shampoo after the Textures & Tones relaxer is rinsed?

No. The Textures & Tones Neutralizing Shampoo is specifically formulated to work with Textures & Tones Relaxer. Follow with the 1-Minute Reconstructive Conditioner.

After a relaxer, my client’s haircolor is lighter. What color can I use to solve this problem without damaging her hair?

Beautiful Collection Semi-Permanent, Jazzing or Radiance Translucent Deposit-Only Color can be used. Remember, formulate one Level lighter since relaxed hair is extra porous. Check color result every 5 minutes.

Is there a permanent haircolor that is specifically designed for relaxed hair?

Yes, try Beautiful Collection Permanent Color or Textures & Tones Permanent Color. They lighten and cover gray in one easy step. Wait one week and one shampoo before applying haircolor to relaxed hair.
