Your Clients And You

Little Things Mean A Lot

Check out these tiny (and easy) tips to keep them coming back for more.

1. Be friendly on the phone.

No matter how busy you are, always let your clients know you are glad to hear from them.

2. Focus your full attention on the client in your chair.

Don't be distracted. Be sure to talk with your client, not chat with a co-worker.

3. Let clients know you're thinking about them.

Choose a few regular haircut clients who would look great with haircolor. Before the client's next appointment, look through fashion magazines for a complementary haircolor. Then show the client your choice and tell them you were thinking of them the other day. They'll appreciate your interest and may give the color a try.

4. Find a spot for a coffee pot and cups.

Who wouldn't like a cup of coffee once in a while? Also, bring in cookies on special days.

5. Offer free bang trims.

Clients will appreciate it when you let them come in-between haircuts to neaten up bangs.

6. Refresh those magazines.

Weed out those ancient issues and recycle. Offer current issues to the clients who are processing and those under the dryer.

7. Use hair ornaments when you're finished with a haircut.

Finish little girl haircuts with a perky bow slipped on a bobby pin. And keep a supply of polka-dot, plaid and striped ribbons handy. Personal choice means a lot.

8. Offer your clients a little something.

Keep a bowl of peppermint candies, or some other goody, at the reception desk.

9. Recommend haircare products for use at home.

And be sure your clients are taught to use what they buy. A mini-consultation is well worth your time, especially with styling products. And don't hesitate to hand out samples.

10. Send your clients holiday cards.

It's a great way to surprise your clients and show them that you're thinking of them. Not to mention, a chance to remind them of you, and perhaps encourage them to come in for a new look to start the new year.

11. Offer an extra special service.

Give your regular clients a quick extra service, like a deep conditioning treatment. It's a simple, inexpensive way to show your clients how valuable they are.

12. Be a good listener.

Be sure to ask clients about themselves, their jobs and families. Your clients will appreciate your interest.

13. Finish off your clients' haircuts in a new way.

Make your long-haired clients feel special by finishing off their haircuts with a French braid, a twist or a casual updo.
