Salon Safety

Disposal & Recycling

HANDLE WITH CARE. EXTRA CARE.

Disposal

Products used in salons do not pose environmental hazards if disposed of properly. Small amounts of materials may be flushed down the drain, but make sure your drains are free of clogs. If allowed to mix in a confined space, such as a clogged drain trap, incompatible ingredients may react with one another.

When disposing of less than one inch of liquid or powder left in a container, follow these practices:

  • Pour or pump any remaining product down the drain, flushing with large amounts of water.
  • Rinse out containers.
  • Empty aerosols as much as possible, then hold the valve down in a well-ventilated area to release pressure.

For disposal of larger amounts of product, consult the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for special requirements. Clairol Professional products carry no risks for sewer or septic systems if disposed of properly.

Recycling

Nearly all of Clairol Professional's packaging and informational materials including cardboard cartons, aerosol cans, and plastic containers, are recyclable and often can be recycled through curb-side pickup. Guidelines on plastic recycling can be obtained from the Society of The Plastics Industry. In addition, many states have voluntary or mandatory recycling programs. For more information about these programs, contact the state or municipal environmental agency in your area.
