For great gray coverage on Level
4 super-resistant, coarse hair
with over 50% gray I use:

1-1/2 oz. Miss Clairol Gray Busters 84N/4N
1/2 oz. Miss Clairol 39G/3GN
1-1/2 oz. 20-volume Pure White or Clairoxide developer.
Process 45 minutes for maximum deposit.

This tip works for Levels 1-4 only.

For example, if you use
Gray Busters 86N/6N mixed with equal parts
20-volume developer, but the coverage at
the root area looks transparent or weak,
try "stepping down" by intermixing 86N/6N
with equal parts Gray Busters 85N/5N,
plus equal parts 20-volume developer.
Intermixing your target Level with a shade
one Level darker provides added depth to
cover resistant white hair while maintaining
the target Level. Process 45 minutes.

For example, a Natural Level 3
client with 50% gray wants a
red-golden brown.

1-1/2 oz. Miss Clairol 75R/5RN
1/2 oz. Miss Clairol 35G/5GN
1/2 oz. Miss Clairol Gray Busters 84N/4N
2 oz. 20-volume developer.
Process 45 minutes.

This is a touch up formula. For a virgin
application, I would not use Gray Busters
on the root area, so two formulas are
needed.

On my model, Suzanne, a Level 4 brunette with 25% gray, I needed to achieve 3 goals:

Rich, cool brunette color with sparkly dimension
No brassy, artificial look
100% gray coverage

My formula was:

1-1/2 oz. Miss Clairol 46D/4A for a
cool ash base at her Natural Level to
control warmth.

1/2 oz. Miss Clairol Gray Busters
85N/5N (one level lighter than her
Natural Level to provide balanced
dimensional results)

2 oz. 20-volume developer
