A permanent color alters natural haircolor to lighten, deepen or cover gray completely in one easy step. The color must be mixed with 10, 20, 30 or 40 volume developer to provide the lifting action. Permanent color lasts until you choose to change the color or cut the hair.
The major difference is the consistency of the product when mixed with a haircolor. Liquid developers create a more gel-like consistency and flow easily through the tip of an applicator bottle. Creme developers create a thicker, creamier consistency when mixed with color and are an excellent choice for bowl-and-brush applications.
